The River Hid Her Name
About
When the remnants of Hurricane Helene sweep through the mountains of Western North Carolina, the storm reshapes more than the valley’s edges. As the floodwaters fall and the old Booey Creek dam gives way, the river exposes what time had long concealed—a small chapel resting in a basin of mud and silence.
Archivist Clara Wynn is asked to help document the find, but from the moment she steps inside the water-marked walls, she feels the hush of something still alive there. Working beside carpenter Elias McRae and town historian Ada Belle Holt, Clara begins to uncover the layered history of the valley—and of herself.
In a place learning to rebuild after loss, the current carries more than silt downstream. It carries memory, grace, and the chance to begin again.
Set amid the misted hills of western North Carolina, The River Hid Her Name is a luminous story of discovery and renewal, where the river that once hid the truth becomes the keeper of every tender thing it restores.
